Google | Analytics Tutorial

“Focus your marketing resources on campaigns and initiatives that deliver ROI. Improve your site to convert more visitors.”

As a Business Analyst and Sr. Programmer, I’m always looking for ways to give a real value to technology as a tool for key business decisions. Google Analytics is definitely on of the tools you want to keep in your toolbox, especially y you have a Website, Blog, eCommerce store, etc. In my case I’m looking forward to use the data collected as a market research.

Giving a meaning to the information and statistics is one of the key, if not the most important step to succeed in business. Technology should be the tool to collect, translate, and present in an easy format, that would be very intuitive for the executive to digest, and make decisions.

See this introduction screen cast tutorial to Google Analyst here.

Photoshop: Web 2.0 effects

March 30th, 2008

Photoshop Lab and Web 2.0

Hi guys, I found some tutorials about how to do those Web 2.0 special effects that are pretty much every where recently. There are hundreds of tutorials… I will list just a couple of sites to pick on your curiosity. I would suggest, if you want to find more information do a Google search with the words “web 2.0 effects”.

I’ll start with 3 articles from Corrie Haffly

Corrie is the lead designer and developer for PixelMill and their in-house brand, jgtemplates. This would-be triathlete has a mathematics degree but wishes she had double-majored in computer science and art instead. Maybe next time…

Also, make sure to visit a blog called Photoshop Lab It is full of tutorials.

Have fun!!! See ya.

MacBook Air: My dream coming true.

January 25th, 2008

At its annual MacWorld, Apple unveiled a new web movie rental service, along with a super slim laptop computer.Apple CEO Steve Jobs presented the new products at the company’s annual MacWorld convention in San Francisco.

MacBook Air is ultrathin, ultraportable, and ultra unlike anything else. But you don’t lose inches and pounds overnight. It’s the result of rethinking conventions. Of multiple wireless innovations. And of breakthrough design. With MacBook Air, mobile computing suddenly has a new standard.

SpiceWorks: The freedom to manage IT

January 23rd, 2008

Just for the record, I don’t know these guys personally, nor do I get any kickbacks. It’s hard to do revenue-sharing on “free.” ;-)

Spiceworks: the IT Management tool...

I use spiceworks at work, for 2 reasons: Because it is a complete IT management tool that does most of the stuff we need (Hardware, HelpDesk, Monitoring and Reporting) without requiring a lot of training for the helpdesk people and because is FREE.

I can’t strech enough to tell you how it makes my life (and my co-workers) easier, having this kind of software in company where resources are limited, and time is very crucial.

Spiceworks was not designed for the enterprise level companies, for those monsters there is plenty of better products, but also very expensive ones; It was designed for Small or Medium size corporations where the level of complexity is fair enough but resources not. We are managing a good number of devices (PC’s, Routers, POS Stations, Printers, Software installed, etc) distributed all over the domain across our National Network (WAN) with a secure connection, we also use the Help Desk Ticket system to keep track of frequent problems and prioritize events. That includes all the IT related issues on every restaurant and at the corporate office too.

NewsGator: Goes FREE!

January 22nd, 2008

Just for the record, I don’t know these guys personally, nor do I get any kickbacks. It’s hard to do revenue-sharing on “free.” ;-)

NewsGator FREE RSS handy tool.

NewsGator is a set programs that allows you to consume RSS feeds into several ways, for example: In your Outlook, on your mobile and online. You can also download the popular standalone desktop applications: FeedDemon for Windows or NetNewsWire for Mac.

Just recently the company decided to give available to download for FREE! (Note that they used to sell the application for about 30 dollars). I’m not sure what is the business model, and honestly I don’t care as long I can keep using it without paying. ;)

3D Flicker views

Felix Turner, creator of the all kinds of clean, lovely Flash photo displays (e.g. the Flickr Related Tag Browser, AutoViewer, SimpleViewer, and PostcardViewer) returns with TiltViewer, an experimental interface that presents photos from Flickr’s “Interestingness” stream. Clicking the icon on any image makes it possible to flip it over, see notes, and jump to the corresponding Flickr page. For details of the project, check out Felix’s blog. For another great way to peruse Flickr, check out PicLens.

PicLens: Instant photo galleries

January 6th, 2008

Just for the record, I don’t know these guys personally, nor do I get any kickbacks. It’s hard to do revenue-sharing on “free.” ;-)

PicLens: Instant photo galleries

Searching for a good plugin or a widget that allows me to show my photos on my personal blog I found this excellent stuff from CoolIris a company who is making very interesting things… It works with IE, Safari but, they recommend FIREFOX version currently available for Windows XP, Vista, and Mac OSX.

This is what they said on CoolIris website:

Think beyond the browser

  • PicLens instantly transforms your browser into a full-screen slideshow experience.
  • PicLens makes photos come to life via a cinematic presentation that goes beyond the confines of the traditional browser window.
  • With PicLens, browsing and viewing images on the web will never be the same again.

You should try it… Go there today!
